MA Showcase

My work is mainly sensory and stems from wanting people to feel included and benefit from the artwork. I want the work to carry a sense of comfort, balance and calm, by using neutral tones to invoke the element of calm and grounding while the use of tactile mediums suggests an invitation to engage with the artwork on a deeper level, encouraging a sensory experience.

My work explores the intersection of touch, emotion, and connection through tactile, mixed-media compositions. Rooted in the belief that art can be both therapeutic and inclusive, I draw inspiration from the profound relationships I’ve observed between children with special needs and horses—two worlds that communicate beyond words.

Using string as my primary medium, I create textured surfaces that invite interaction and emotional resonance. The repetitive act of placing and layering the string is itself meditative, mirroring the calming presence I seek to evoke. I intentionally use neutral colours to create a quiet, grounded space where viewers can feel at ease, open, and connected.

I’m influenced by artists such as Judith Scott, whose fibre-based sculptures challenged perceptions of communication and ability, and Sheila Hicks, known for transforming textile traditions into powerful, tactile expressions. Like them, I view texture as a language—one that can foster connection, particularly for those who engage the world through touch.

My aim is for the work to speak gently but clearly encouraging moments of pause, reflection, and a shared sense of understanding. It is less about visual spectacle and more about what can be felt with the hands and with the heart. I want my work to encourage viewers to slow down, reflect, and feel—not just with their eyes, but with their senses and spirit. In a world often dominated by speed and surface, I aim to create spaces of quiet connection, where softness is strength and simplicity holds meaning.

Whispers of Ancient hearts

(Braille poem)

In fields where hush and clover meet,
The horse walks slow on silent feet,
A steady breath, a lowered head,
A calm that only ancient hearts have read.

No need for words, no hurried pace,
Just quiet strength and gentle grace.
Their eyes, like pools of twilight rain,
Soak sorrow up, then soothe the pain.

A flick of tail, a warm soft nose,
The stillness that their presence grows.
When life is loud, they simply are,
Like moonlight near, yet always far.

Their rhythm teaches how to be—
To stand in still humility.
Among their kind, the world feels wide,
Yet peace walks softly at your side.

So lay your worry down like reins,
Forget the roads, the noise, the chains.
For where the horse is calm and near,
The soul finds breath, and heart finds clear.
